Charging Forward
Optimized EGR and the Detroit Diesel Aftertreatment System provide the ultimate in engine
performance and air quality, all wrapped up in one of the most fuel-efficient
heavy-duty engines on the road.
Innovative Thinking
Optimized Exhaust Gas Recirculation
With sophisticated,
reliable electronic controls, the Series 60 takes exhaust
and sends it back through the engine where it's water-cooled and routed back to
the intake manifold. Then, the Aftertreatment System's filtration process
cleans the exhaust before the air re-enters the atmosphere.
Electronic Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT)
Want faster response and quicker acceleration? Detroit Diesel's VGT is the
turbocharger for you. With variable vanes that allow the engine to
electronically control the exhaust pressure in the system VGT improves overall
engine and Jake brake performance by quickly adapting to different driving
conditions.
Still a Fuel Economy Leader
At a trim 2,557 lbs, the 2007 Series 60 puts its power in the right
place—hauling loads. Integrated
DDEC VI electronics and the Aftertreatment
System help make the Series 60 the most fuel-efficient heavy-duty application
engine on the road since 1987.
More Power, Less Bulk
Maximizing fuel economy means improving the power-to-weight ratio of an engine.
The Series 60 delivers more power in a lighter package—that means you'll have
more payload capacity and better fuel efficiency.
Engine Weight
The Series 60 has been a leading engine in its class since 1987. No surprise
there. Superior design and precision gear train and single cylinder air
compressor engineering enhancements have kept the Series 60 the lightest, most
fuel-efficient engine in its class.
Gear Train
We've made the new Series 60 gear train 53 lbs lighter—giving you more room for
air flow under the hood. Our new component brackets are stronger, and help
reduce overall vibration and noise. The Series 60 gives you ultimate
performance and comfort on the road, and excellent
serviceability in the shop.
Cylinder Kits
The Series 60 features a stronger, lighter one-piece piston design and a
naturally aspirated single cylinder compressor that team up to reduce oil
consumption by using a closed oil gallery and a smoother bore on the cylinder
liner. Perfection is in the details of the Series 60.
